LOL

I also want to ask you a question...which of those Regency books did you most want to buy based on their hooks?

I like to get my hook in the first line or definitely the first paragraph if possible. I guess because it's been pounded into my brain, but also because that's how I shop for books as well. I will read the back, but alas, I've been fooled! I will actually open the book and read the first page. I've been know to shut the book and place it in my cart (or my simple click it into my online cart...thank you Amazon!) after merely reading an opening line.

Congrats on your word count girlie!!Donna OBrienhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09407399495204787487noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3933105093679005323.post-61290685334158334312010-03-04T07:02:01.237-08:002010-03-04T07:02:01.237-08:00Good luck with your surgery. The first paragraph has to grab you and make you want to know what happens next.

Woohoo on the word count. You go girl! When the kids are young, every word you succeed at putting down is quite the accomplishment.Debra Kaynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15362647937524679472noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3933105093679005323.post-9576295972360580082010-03-03T17:27:09.651-08:002010-03-03T17:27:09.651-08:00Amazing wordcount, Sarah! And good luck with your surgery! *hugs*

As for hooks, I'm pondering that very subject lately but haven't really gathered my thoughts yet. You're my inspiration. I've got to get cranking.

I like to set up my hook in the first sentence if possible. A lot of times I'll start smack dab in the middle of an event or conversation, so the reader is drawn immediately in.Helen Hardthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06820047167673628170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3933105093679005323.post-71485230597153197782010-03-03T10:30:41.638-08:002010-03-03T10:30:41.638-08:00Ahh, Sarah. I love good openings and like you, I've been seen standing in bookstores reading the first pages of books. Some openings are fantastic, some not so much. But the thing that bothers me most is a book with a great opening hook and after that, a let down in which the rest of the book falls short. I've seen this in blurbs as well.Kaye Manrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03639814610213100626noreply@blogger.com
